Mist clung to Kannamangala lake like a jealous lover, swallowing sights, muffling calls. My camera, a useless eye in the greyscale world, hung heavy. I captured some hazy photos in the lake's misty kiss. Here are the pics.
~~~
As usual, I reached the lake just as the sun was cracking open the sky, the scene already painted in a watercolor of mist.
~~~
The fog clung to the lake surroundings like a ghostly shawl, concealing the depths in mystery.
~~~
From a distance, I spotted a gaggle of bird watchers valiantly wielding their lenses, determined to outwit the fog and its feathered captives.
~~~
With patient persistence, an intermediate egret patrolled with its bill poised like a silent promise to any unwary minnow or frog.
~~~
And nearby, a Little Egret mirrored the patient vigil, its own slender bill ready for its next meal.
~~~
An Indian spot-billed duck pair, their chestnut plumage barely visible through the mist, drifted serenely across the still water.
~~~
The mist swallowed the little grebe whole.
~~~
From the heart of the fog emerged a pair of Aylesbury ducks. As they paddled closer, the fog reluctantly conceded, granting me a few moments of clarity.
~~~
Untroubled by my presence, barn swallows chattered and preened on a wire, seemingly shielded from my gaze by the invisible cloak of mist.
~~~
The fog clung stubbornly to the landscape.
~~~
Rose-ringed parakeets, awaited the mist's retreat, their silence a contrast to the symphony of the waking world.
~~~
A lone Asian koel, its charcoal form etched against the mist, perched patiently on a distant branch.
~~~
Further away, a bird sat atop a tree, a possible Rosy Starling.
~~~
The haze thickened.
~~~
A wave of joy washed over me as I glimpsed the common hawk cuckoo, with a Shikra-like gaze surveying its domain. This winter visitor, long unseen, brought back memories of crisp mornings.
~~~
Like a hungry beast gorging on the world, the fog thickened, forcing me to retreat.
But on the path, its tendrils parted briefly, revealing an Indian pond heron and a juvenile Bronze-winged Jacana stalking it nearby.
~~~
Final pic of the morning when I left, the sun struggling to pierce through the veil of fog.
Fog adds an element of secrecy to it all. It’s actually quite pleasing.
ReplyDeleteThe fog is amazing. It adds to the photos. What a lovely surprise to see the cuckoo!
ReplyDeleteThis is just the observation of a person who loves birds, but is not a bird watcher, i love the mysterious vail it puts on all you see. There is beauty in your photos, not of just the lovely birds you encountered, but of the fog itself.
ReplyDeleteThe fog did not keep you down too long. It added a little mystery to your excellent photos.
ReplyDeleteWonderful foggy photos! I think the first is my favorite. Lots of mystery!
ReplyDeleteTop shots.
ReplyDeleteYour poetic words suit the misty quality of the photos - love it!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful series of fog photos.
The Aylesbury ducks and the Common hawk-cuckoo are very bright, as is the Indian pond heron.
The first photo is my favorite, I think it's really beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWorth a Thousand Words
Hello,
ReplyDeleteYour foggy images are lovely, I think they add a layer of mystery. You captured some great birds and photos. I love the Egret, Parakeets, the cute ducks and the Common Hawk Cuckoo. My favorite landscapes are the first and last images. Well done. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a great weekend. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.
The fog in your photos is very beautiful.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous captures matched by brilliant captions!
ReplyDeleteThe photos are just beautiful, and the fog definitely contributes to the beauty you have captured. However, if one’s goal is clear IDs of birds then fog isn’t a friend. I’ll take the beauty. (My husband loves clarity!)
ReplyDeletebest, mae at maefood.blogspot.com
Always beautiful photos and the fog adds another atmospheric touch. Beautifully done again.
ReplyDeleteI know this phenomenon very well. The Po Valley where I live in northern Italy is a very foggy area.
ReplyDeleteI think fog is nice for the first 5 minutes, when you are birding. After that it is just boring.
Anyway your shots are nice. My favourites are the snow white ducks.
Hi Shiju, The mist makes for an interesting element. As always, so many neat photos. Thanks for sharing! John
ReplyDeleteI prefer the sunshine but notice some of my photos come out better on a cloudy day. I don't get out on misty mornings but I guess I should try it. Love the white duck with bright orange bill....just what we think a duck should look like!
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely, lovely post and you make us feel your own wonder. Aloha dear friend
ReplyDeleteyour misty morning is one of the prettiest i have ever seen. i do not have this kind of luck with mist and fog, i wish i did because your images are gorgeous!! your description, especially in the first paragraph, is exceptional...i clung to every word. i wonder if you have taken a writing class...your words are as special as your images!!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I read a lot, so that probably helps with my writing.
Greetings from Heidrun
great photos! how well you captured these beautiful birds through the fog 😍
ReplyDeleteHappy WW 🤗
Fascinating, what poetry the fog has seduced you into, dear Shiju 😊! I always appreciate your texts, but this time they are particularly poetic. And your photographs also have a very special magic today. I understand that as a bird watcher you don't ALWAYS want to have this veil around you and the landscape, but sometimes it creates a very special atmosphere. And despite everything, you saw a lot of birds - even a rather rare guest, the hawk cuckoo!
ReplyDeleteI now say goodbye and start my recently announced blog break - with one more “last posting before” and warm greetings 🙋
All the best, Traude
The fog adds a bit of magic to your photos. Thank you for linking up.
ReplyDeleteAmazing shots. Especially the first one of fog, sun and tree.. Wonderful.
ReplyDeleteYou managed some lovely pictures of the avian life around Kannamangala lake even on a misty day. The delicate layer also seems to add to the beauty of the birds and the place, too. :)
ReplyDeleteI love how the mist has magically made this real photo look like a watercolour. Nature really is beautiful! Thanks for sharing and for linking up with #MySundaySnapshot.
ReplyDeleteEven the fog is magical with your camera....Michelle
