Intimate Day with Saul Kere Birds

Happy New Year! To kick off the year, I wanted to share a recent trip I took to Saul Kere lake. I was lucky enough to spot some beautiful birds, both local and visitors from faraway lands.

~~~
Even though garganeys weren't as plentiful this year, I felt lucky to catch a glimpse of these elegant migratory ducks.
~~~
The migrant Wood sandpipers meticulously combed the shoreline.

~~~
A cheerful "cheep-cheep" announced the arrival of a Grey Wagtail, its bright yellow belly contrasting with its slate-grey back as it hopped along the bank.
~~~
A cheeky resident Pied Bushchat, struck a series of poses for my camera.

~~~
The wind whispered through the feathers of a Brahminy Kite as it perched atop a weathered branch.
~~~
Like a phantom flitting through the grass, a shy White-breasted Waterhen graced me with a brief glimpse.

~~~
Forget your average fish snack! A daring White-throated Kingfisher had a more formidable prey: a praying mantis.
~~~
Wedged on the weathered branch, a Brahminy Kite found her mate – then came the rare dance of avian love.

~~~
A white-cheeked barbet scrutinized a gnarled tree trunk, planning its nest excavation.
~~~
Despite the canvas of cerulean stretched above, dotted with puffy cotton candy clouds, 9 AM's insistent fingers tapped my shoulder, reminding me of other matters I needed to attend to, even on the weekend.

~~~
Sending cheer and good vibes for a fantastic year! So, how'd you launch into 2024?
  22. Your photos as always bring joy. I love the birds like kingfishers that have family members throughout the world, and also the ones that seem to limit their range to your part of the planet. Have a great birding year in 2024, and also a happy. year in the rest of your life.
  37. I'm very late commenting today... I'm amazed at how quickly the days fly by again in the new year.
    Your post is a feast for the eyes in many ways. A very welcome change when I look out of the window here at how rainy and dreary it is here. Well... it's January, it's winter time. It's supposed to get really cold in the next few days (-10 C°) and it's supposed to snow. Thank you for your contribution to
    MosaicMonday
    Once again, best wishes for a healthy, happy new year 2024,
    Heidrun
