Dawn at Saul Kere

.

Early on a holiday Monday, I reached Saul Kere at 7am for a delightful birdwatching adventure. Here are the pics from the brief visit.

~~~
Dawn's blush painted Saul Kere as I arrived.
~~~
I watched a black-winged stilt wading like a tuxedoed dancer in the glassy shallows.

~~~
Wood Sandpipers flitted nervously, tiny feet chasing miniature feasts along the lake edge.
~~~
A white-throated kingfisher, sat perched on a branch, basking in the warmth of the morning sun.

~~~
A booted warbler, like a tiny ambassador from faraway lands, a welcome spark of magic amidst the familiar.
~~~
My binoculars and I waged a battle against the owlet's dry bark camouflage, finally unearthing a sleepy couple, eyelids heavy with slumber.

~~~
An Alexandrine parakeet guarded its new home, a nest hole claimed after kicking out a white-cheeked barbet.
~~~
A male Asian Koel's liquid song, rich and mournful, unfurled like a silver ribbon, touching hearts with its bittersweet melody.

~~~
Despite being the most common bird here, the spotted dove today held a surprising charm.
~~~
The spotted owlet nestled deeper into its perch,  but its beautiful yellow eyes remained veiled by drowsiness.

~~~
An oriental magpie robin, a cascade of clear notes that filled the air.
~~~
Nearby, a tailorbird, a tiny architect of intricate nests, stitched the air with its rapid needle-like chirps.

~~~
My breath caught as the owlet stirred, flitting to another branch. There, in a flash of movement, its eyes flew open.
~~~
In a blur of motion, it launched itself onto a lower branch, wings unfurling, offering a fleeting glimpse of their intricate patterns.

9 am.  The family holiday gathering waited, and off I went. Did you enjoy the post? Let me know in the comments!

  2. Hello Shiju,
    These are great series of photos.
    The black-winged stilt with reflection is really great.
    The Wood Sandpipers are also great to see.
    The white-throated kingfisher and the booted warbler are also beautiful, but I really love the owlet's, so cute to see.
    The tailor bird is a beautiful species, another one I have never seen before.

  4. I can't recall ever seeing an owl with its eyes closed in this way. All fantastic photos as usual. Your prose, too, is a joy and reads like poetry, from "tuxedoed dancers" to the "tiny ambassador" sparking magic.

  8. I enjoyed your photos, and I choose the green bird (kind of parakeet) 🦜 and the dove with the dots on its neck as my favorites. There are so many species in the world. I marvel at that as I scroll down through your blog post. I came here through Eileen's Saturday Critters. 🌍📸 My blog with two animals today: https://momentsfrozentime.blogspot.com/

  27. Dear Shiju, these are again many great photos. I think the black-winged style with its reflections is particularly pretty. The owls are really EXTREMELY well camouflaged - kudos that you recognized them despite the camouflage and photographed them so well. I think THIS particular spotted dove would win any dove beauty contest! The tailorbird looks fluffy and adorable.
    Thanks for answering my question from the last post!
    I hope you had a nice family gathering!
    All the best, Traude

  35. Wow ! I like your admiration for passionately clicking the hustle bustle of birds ,I had never heard about the spotted dove and
    the timing and observation of capturing Owl beside the background of dry bark is commendable. Thanks for sharing with Garden Affair.
