On the last day of the Bangalore Flower Show 2023, my wife, kid and I decided to make a visit. The Horticulture department has banned digital cameras in the Lalbagh Botanical Gardens.
The reasons for the ban:
1. to avoid inconveniencing visitors, especially the daily walkers and runners
2. to ensure flora and fauna are not disturbed
3. flash light and photography equipment can cause bee attack
All illogical reasons.
But they allow mobile phone cameras and make a mockery of all the above said reasons.
Here are our phone camera pics from the flower show…

The place has a good variety of birds. We saw Black-naped Oriole, Tickell's Flowerpecker, Shikra, Oriental Magpie Robin, a Lesser Golden-backed Woodpecker and a few sunbirds. Without a camera the sightings were disappointing for me. But Rohan enjoyed viewing them through the binoculars…

We also took photos of each other in various poses…

There are a few photographers who depend on the botanical
garden for their livelihood. They shoot
and print instant postcards for ₹ 100. Here’s our family pic clicked by
one of them…

Thus ended our trip. Overall it was an enjoyable one. For now, it seems like a permanent camera ban and other parks are following suit. Hope the Horticulture department will apply their mind and reverse the ban.
I can't imagine why they would not want you taking photos. Are some of the plants copyrighted?! You didn't need a big camera to take fantastic photos. Let's hope those in charge come to their senses.
ReplyDeleteSome great pics you got there. I have never seen the flytrap plants live before. I would love to do so.
ReplyDeleteI sure don't understand the camera ban since you know, phones now have very good cameras on them. And they have flashes on them.
Too bad they didn't explain things better. I attended a horse show in October and they had prominent "no cameras allowed" signs on in the arena. I checked their web site and they explained that they didn't care about individual photographers who are using photographs for their own non-commercial uses and who were in the upper half of the stands. They had sold the commercial photography rights to a 3rd party and they were protecting that 3rd party. So I took my camera out and took as many photos as I wanted despite dirty looks from some of my fellow attendees secure in the knowledge that I was honoring the intent of the signs.
So I think they should explain what their problem is.
If you can take a photo with a phone but not a camera, it is illogical. Who said people are logical? Enjoyed your photos from the flower show and your wife is so lovely.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots!
ReplyDeleteGreat floral shots! Your family look happy and positively smiling
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful photos
ReplyDeleteSomething new I am hearing too! Ban on camera in Lalbagh is surely disheartening for bird enthusiasts. Hopefully they would revoke soon. Great pictures, missed the flower show this time as well
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful photos of the different flowers.
ReplyDeleteI think your phone takes really good pictures.
Greetings Irma
Well this proves that a mobile can make as colourful pictures as a real camera only the lens is not always up to its task. I still like your photo's again. Have a nice weekend.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pain, restricting cameras! Your photos are amazing. You do excellent portraits, as well!
ReplyDeleteI love a flower show and that one looked delightful! You phone really did you proud.
ReplyDeleteRegulations imposed by bureaucrats don't make sense? What a surprise!
ReplyDeleteHello :=) Beautiful happy family photos, and gorgeous flower shots.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteThe camera rules do not make sense since they are allowing the use of the phone camera. Your flowers images are all gorgeous. Love all the closeups. Great shots of your family! Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a great weekend. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.
I can't imagine a flower show without a camera. Anyway, you have done a great job with your mobile phone camera.
ReplyDeleteDear Shiju,
ReplyDeletethe camera ban reminds me of our second trip to India (2013) - back then it was also forbidden to take photos in some places and the cameras were taken away from us and locked up. I kept thinking "click", "click" when I saw a beautiful subject while passing through palaces or museums - but thoughts cannot take photos. It was all the more frustrating for me when I then saw many visitors taking photos with their cell phones. (I didn't have a phone with a good camera at the time, so I didn't have it with me. That being said, I figured a camera ban meant ALL cameras, even cellphone ones. But I guess they just don't dare taking away phones...)
Anyway, getting angry doesn't help either, and fortunately the cell phone cameras are really good these days. Maybe not good enough for bird photography, but: you managed really beautiful photos ❤️ with your phone and I'm happy to meet your family.
ALL THE BEST, have a good February and a happy weekend!

A flowerful trip with the family ... your handy captures are excellent as ever.
ReplyDeleteHave a very goog weekend
Oh, I love your photos of all the flowers! They are all so beautiful. The Poinsettia is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing your family photos. Your wife and lovely and I love seeing you all together. You got some amazing photos with your phone but I hope they change the rules. Take care!
ReplyDeleteSure enjoyed this post. Despite the limitations you did really well with your smartphone(s). Shiju, you, your wife, and Rohan make a good-looking family! 😊 I learned how to recognize the national flag of India. Very nice. I also like your “attempt to salvage a bad mobile photo.” Your attempt is much better than mine would be. Overall, I sure enjoyed the post … but sorry you were not able to use your usual cameras. Happy week ahead to you and your family. John
ReplyDeleteI enjoy seeing your blog week after week. Your son holding the flag, he is so proud. You have a lovely wife. Looks like you enjoyed the flower show. I enjoyed the cyber tour of colorful flowers. Our area is cold and we have snow on the ground. Brrrr.
ReplyDelete...I've never heard of a ban. Sometime they don't want tripods used. I just bought a new iPhone and am trying to figure out how to use the camera. On this cold winter night, I appreciate all of the beautiful colors.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful captures. Goes to prove that it is the photographer not the camera that makes the difference! We have developed a culture that bans, sad.
ReplyDeleteThe pictures are really beautiful
ReplyDeleteYour portraits are as beautiful and well photographed as your flowers. Oh, seeing that color while we are in a world of white is such a gift. Thank you for that (and your visit today!)
ReplyDeleteMagnificent photos from your phone and what a beautiful family you have ~
ReplyDeleteWishing you good health, laughter and love in your days,

I can understand banning flash cameras, but to van completely, makes no sense.
ReplyDeleteAnd, thanks for joining us this weekend at IRBB.
What beautiful photos you captured with your phone. The ban seems silly but what can you do. Have a wonderful week.

ReplyDeleteThat rule seems illogical although I would agree with the flash photography ban - period, for both cell phones and cameras. I'm glad they allowed you to use your cell and those pictures did do justice to the flowers. Your pictures are so beautiful. I've never heard of ageratum called bluemink so that one is new to me. I enjoyed seeing your family, too.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flower show. The flowers are gorgeous. Great family photos.
ReplyDeletelovely Alstroemeria and tulips.....
ReplyDeleteIt's astounding what good, quality photos we can get with our phones these days!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing these at http://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/2023/02/a-few-images-from-chinese-lantern.html
Beautiful colors and shapes, and a lovely family! Now, I'm longing for Spring.
ReplyDeleteA bee attack. That is far out reasoning. And I didn't even see any bees in your beautiful photos! Still, your photos will cause a buzz anyway. :) You have a lovely family.
ReplyDeleteThat flower show is amazing. The camera ban (when cell phone shots are allowed) doesn't make any sense at all. I can't seem to learn to use my phone camera; and I'm so glad you did! Thank you for sharing. Loved the family portraits also -- yours and the "professional". Beautiful family.
ReplyDeleteYour flower photos are fabulous! The ban seems a tad illogical if phones are allowed. I love the Pycnosorus shots! #WWandpics
ReplyDeleteSo much beauty in one post. Loved it all.
ReplyDeleteEven with just a cell phone camera your photos are fabulous! So many beautiful and bright, beautiful flowers. Your family is lovely too.
ReplyDeleteLoved seeing the pops of color of the beautiful flowers; especially in my dreary Winter weather here. What a beautiful family you have. Your camera photos are even great captures.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite flowers are any ones with shapes and bright colours. You found plenty even though you couldn't use your 'proper camera'. Some people just love to make up 'rules' ...the family pics are awesome too.
ReplyDeleteIt was so good seeing your blog post shared via the Wednesday’s Words and Pics link up. Thank you for being part of the community here and I hope to see you next week too. Denyse.
