Birds of Anekal lake

Over the past many Sundays, I have been discovering and re-discovering the beautiful lakes of Bangalore and the remarkable birds and critters that inhabit there.
Last week, I visited Anekal lake for the first time.
Here's a photo tour...

The sky was so overcast that the Sun at 9 AM was looking like moon...

A flock of Black-winged Stilts...

Ashy Prinia...

Pheasant-tailed Jacana...

Great Cormorant in flight...

Donkey and its cute foal...

The foal looked less than a month old...

A flock of Black-winged stilts perform a synchronized aerobatic flight at really high speed...

Frog...

Paddyfield Pipit...

Pied Bush Chat...

 Cattle Egret...

Cattle Egret in flight...

White-browed Wagtail...

The showstopper of the day was the Pied Kingfisher. It hovers over the lake trying to locate fishes...

Once it locates a fish, it dives into the water with great speed...

It catches the fish...

And flies away...

Here's a panorama of Anekal lake and its surroundings. Click or tap to navigate...
