Last Sunday, after a night of heavy rain, I decided to visit Saul Kere Lake. The lake was blanketed in a mysterious mist. I've always had a fascination with hazy, dreamlike photos, so I decided to take some shots and see what I could create. The results turned out to be surprisingly artistic, and I can't wait to show you the pictures.
~~~
As I stepped in, patches of fog greeted me, gradually enveloping the surroundings as the sun began to rise.
~~~
A White-breasted waterhen appeared unsure about whether I posed a threat. I remained motionless, and it swiftly concealed itself before cautiously emerging again, likely realizing that I posed no harm..
~~~
A team of Indian spot-billed ducks remained engrossed in their grooming routine, paying little attention to my presence. Seizing the moment, I captured a few shots.
~~~
Following their grooming session, one of the ducks apparently worked up an appetite and began dabbling in the water, on the hunt for some fish.
~~~
Close by, I saw a Little Grebe, and it didn't seem to mind me being there.
~~~
As the sun began to warm the surroundings, a purple-rumped sunbird made its appearance.
~~~
I was amazed when a red-whiskered bulbul got really close, allowing me to capture the details of its bright red whiskers.
~~~
At this point, the mist had spread out like a blanket, covering everything evenly.
~~~
I saw the spot-billed pelicans perched on a tree with flowers in the mist. I liked the hazy look and wanted to take more photos like it.
~~~
I managed to capture a pelican in flight within the mist.
~~~
It was quite a sight to witness the Bronze-winged Jacana chicks in a frenzy, scurrying about as they foraged for food. Tracking their rapid movements posed a little challenge.
~~~
Here's another misty shot of the lake.
~~~
A Grey heron in the distance appeared unusually animated.
~~~
Next up, I spotted an Asian green bee-eater.
~~~
The Indian silverbill looked charming.
~~~
I spotted a young Brahminy kite doing something unexpected. It was carrying a twig, similar to nesting material, even though nest-building is usually an adult task. It appeared busy, flying around and gnawing on the twig as if it were a fish. Nonetheless, it provided some interesting photo opportunities.
~~~
It was a pleasant surprise to spot an early migrant, the Grey Wagtail.
~~~
I wrapped up the day with a distant view of a Common tailor bird.
~~~
I hope you enjoyed the post. Feel free to share your comments!
Misty photos are so haunting and fun to capture. The little Sunbird caught my eye in particular and the Jacana chicks reminded me a bit of jumping kangaroos with those long bent legs. :)
ReplyDeleteA series of stunning photographs. A wonderful post.
ReplyDeleteWe don't get fog often, so it's a treat to see. Lovely photos of the pelicans flying in the mist!
ReplyDeleteAll those birds! An amazing collection. The fog is very beautiful. Thanks for posting.
ReplyDeleteSo many beautiful captures - amazing work on a misty morning
ReplyDeleteVery misty indeed.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your beautiful pictures! Aloha
ReplyDeleteAmazing series of pics
ReplyDeleteThe kite's behavior is interesting. The bills of the ducks are so colorful. The foggy mist can either enhance or spoil an image. You made very good use of the opportunity to add interest to the compositions..
ReplyDeleteDelightful captures of birds and their lifestyle!
ReplyDeleteGreat series of photos Shiju.
ReplyDeleteI think the Indian Spotted-billed Ducks are very beautiful, a species that we don't see here.
The little grebe also beautifully photographed, this species does occur in the Netherlands.
The purple-rumped sunbird, red-whiskered bulbul, Asian green bee-eater, young Brahminy kite and the tailor bird are really wonderful to see, these species are also not found in the Netherlands.
I also think the misty landscape is very beautiful and with the pelican in the sky it is absolutely fantastic.
In short, I enjoyed your photos again.
Greetings Irma
A little mist is far from unpleasant.
ReplyDeleteBirds in the mist could be the title of a novel. We have starlings flying around the house from tree to tree, which is a true sign of fall.
ReplyDeleteSo many wonderful shots! I love them all. Some of these birds I have never seen or heard of before.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteThe birds in the mist are wonderful, your photos are always a treat to see. I would be a happy birder to see all of these birds, you capture the birds beautifully. The Jacana chicks are just one of my favorites, they are so cute. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a happy weekend. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.
Many would have gone back home at the sight of all that mist. You persevered and finished with your usual array of fine photos. The jacana chicks made me laugh with their impossibly large feet, but all the better to traverse that lilies,
ReplyDeleteYour mist photos are very beautiful, especially the pelicans. I once saw a mist appear over a small lake in just minutes, as if by magic, like in an Arthurian legend. Other than that, of course I've see misty days, but this one event was amazing. It was long ago, before cameras were in one's hand at all times -- so no pics.
Dear Shiju, you captured the foggy atmosphere at Saul Kere Lake fantastically and took so many beautiful bird and nature photos. This time I'm particularly excited about the Bronze-winged Jacana chicks, which look so cute and were captured so well by you. I assume the young Brahminy kite is already practicing building nests - perhaps he has fallen in love with a young lady and wants to impress her ;-))? The sight of the Indian spot-billed ducks is also very fascinating for me - they look very similar to "our" mallard ducks, but these colorful beaks are real eye-catchers!
