A misty first day of 2023

The first day of the year saw a birdwatcher make an early morning drive to Muthanallur lake.

Expectations for the day and the new year ran high.

As luck would have it, the entire expanse was cloaked in thick mist.

Being the 'opti-mist' he is, he predicted things to get better soon and ventured in.

Here are the pics from the trip…

...
The mist obscured everything beyond a few meters…
...
...

...
Even the sun appeared moonlike…
...
I could feel the powdery ‘scotch mist’, the thick drizzly mist that you see in Scottish highlands...
...
The scotch mist made the spiderwebs look like silky strings of pearls…
...

...

...

...
Even the hair-like trichomes of plants were dripping with diamonds…
...

...

...
A Red-whiskered Bulbul made a hazy appearance in the mist…
...
The fog started clearing and a Paddyfield Warbler caught my attention…
...
Signature spider, the artist who creates those webs…
...
Everything along the path was drenched in diamonds…
...
A large flock of Glossy Ibis was flying around. It was nice to see two Black-headed Ibises accompanying them…
...
A White-rumped Munia was making frequent trips to collect nesting materials…
...

...
A Large-billed Reed Warbler was seen next…
...
The sun was up and the mist had disappeared. Now the colors of the birds started resolving with the extra bit of light. A Red-whiskered Bulbul flashed its whiskers…
...
A Spotted-dove flew in and sat on a bare branch of a dry tree…
...
A Rose-ringed Parakeet shows off its dazzling colors…
...
A fitting end to the exciting morning was this Common Jezebel butterfly happily flitting about...
...
...

  9. That spider shot with web I have never seen captured that way. Water droplets look like art. The Red Whiskered BulBul was a favorite of mine. Looks a wee bit like a fox but a bird. Weird thought huh? Enjoy taking more fabulous images in 2023.
