Recent haul from Saul Kere

We are in the migratory season now, so a visit to Saul kere yields more birds than in any other time of the year. Here’s the recent haul…

...
The first birds I saw were Great Cormorants flying overhead…
...
A solitary Brahminy kite was displaying mating behavior to attract a partner…
...
There were Rose-ringed parakeets, calling, flying around and perching on a tree where they nest…
...
A White-throated Kingfisher was waiting for an unwary fish to pass by…
...
At a distance, some Garganeys were swimming peacefully…
...

...

...
A Eurasian Moorhen was seen next…
...
Another White-throated Kingfisher…
...
A Little Grebe swam about…
...
Several Indian Pond-Heron dotted the floating vegetation of the lake…
...

...
Sunbirds became active as the sun gathered strength. A male Purple-rumped Sunbird was seen…
...
A Gray Wagtail…
...
A Squirrel was trying to get some food for breakfast…
...
An Intermediate Egret’s furry feather stood out in the backlight…
...
A Purple Heron skulked…
...
Then it took off in style…
...
And becomes a tattoo subject for the first pic...

...
I followed the Purple Heron and it was seen preening with a twisted neck…
...
A Grey Wagtail was seen perched on a distant tree…
...

...
The Brahminy Kite was able to attract a mate…
...
A Red-vented bulbul flashes its prominent red vent…
...
An evil looking Crane(no, NOT a bird!) peered furtively through the woods…
...
A Gray-headed Swamphen came close to where I was standing…
...

...
Lifer of the day was this brief glimpse of an Oriental Honey-buzzard…
...
The name Honey-buzzard is derived from its diet which consists mainly of the larvae of bees and wasps extracted from honey combs…
...
An Asian Green Bee-eater…
...
The metallic gleam of a male Purple Sunbird is always awesome to watch…
...
A Green Sandpiper flew very close to where I was standing. Usually they are the most shy type among the sandpipers, but this one surprised me…
...
A Coppersmith Barbet…
...
An Indian Golden Oriole  gave poses hiding behind a very distracting twig…
...

...

...
The morning moon…
...
An Indian Spot-billed duck couple looked elegant…
...
Some Northern Pintails were seen at a distance…
...
Here’s a closer look…
...
Also seen at a distance were these group of Garganeys…
...

...

...
Spot-billed Duck did a flutter…
...
A Western Yellow Wagtail was the last bird of the day…
...

...
Thus ended the very satisfying morning. Hope you liked the post. Awaiting your comment…

  27. I loved sharing your amazing morning . Wonderful birds beautifully photographed, who could ask for more! Wonderful pictures of the water birds and the bigger raptors but the ones I would really really love to see "in real life" are the adorable sunbirds and bee-eaters. They are such pretty small birds. Thanks for sharing all of it. (showing my advanced age here, but I'm not wild about the tattoo -- everything else I would so much love to see -- thank you for all of it!!)

  35. Ah that's why the Brahmini Kite is so decked out in his feathers:) Have to admit, I normally do not like tattoos, but this has been done excellently with soft and more natural colors! Have a great week, Shiju.
