Repeat visits to Saul kere

I have been visiting Saul kere lake repeatedly this season, thanks to the flooded Hoskote lake, my usual birding place. The bird watching experience differs on each occasion, despite the consecutive trips. Here are some sightings from this week's visit...

...
First sighting was of a Grey-headed Swamphen in flight...
...
I focused on an immature Bronze-winged Jacana. It was foraging in the swamp...
...

...

...
It crossed path with a Wood Sandpiper while foraging...

...
Also saw a close interaction between an Intermediate Egret, a Glossy Ibis and a Bronze-winged Jacana. I wonder what's their story...
...
I saw a Common Tailorbird spread its tail like fantails. I've never seen this type of display in tailorbirds before...
...

...
Next I saw a Purple-rumped Sunbird tending to her nestlings...
...
A lone Wood Sandpiper foraged for food...
...
Black-rumped Flameback (Lesser Goldenbacked Woodpecker) was seen far away in the wooded area...
...
Here's the golden back of the Goldenbacked Woodpecker...

...
A male Indian Golden Oriole was seen next, very active on a distant tree...
...
...
...
Then it flew closer to a nearby tree...

...
This display made my day...

...
Red-whiskered Bulbul pair was seen next...
...
A juvenile Indian Golden Oriole...

...
Last sighting of the day was of this very shy Greater Coucal...
...
I was highly satisfied with the sightings and returned home eagerly to check the photographs. The morning turned out great. Hope you liked the post. Do post your thoughts in the comments section below...

  1. What a great series of photos of the different types of birds.
I enjoy it every time because I see so many species that do not occur here in the Netherlands.

  3. I think that we all return to the same locations time after time and the experience is rewarding and different on each occasion. The shot of the Common Tailorbird spreading its tail is a great new event, and the nest of the sunbird is quite precious.

  12. Super pictures again Shiju. I'm struggling to see much difference between your oriole and our Golden Oriole. But then I see very few of our own here in Northern UK.
