Last Saturday, we drove to Bannerghatta National Park. Here's a photo tour...
The overcast conditions made the walk to the Butterfly Park quite pleasant...
The Butterfly Park is a temperature controlled glass house with butterfly friendly flowering plants...
Mexican butterfly weed...
A closer look under the leaves reveal tiny butterfly eggs...
Blue Mormon butterfly...
Caterpillar of Blue Mormon...
Common Castor Butterfly...
Lime Butterfly...
Pupa of Common Mormon Butterfly...
Caterpillar of Common Mormon butterfly. It prefers to feed on Indian Curry Leaves...
Common Mormon Butterfly. I wondered why many of the large butterflies had injured wings. In this controlled environment the butterflies have no predators to fear other than little humans...
Common Grass Yellow Butterfly...
Caterpillar of Striped Tiger Butterfly...
Striped Tiger Butterfly...
Next, we went for a Special Jeep Safari in the jungle and spotted a variety of animal in their natural habitat.
A curious female Sambar deer was all ears while the Cheetal spotted deer were all tails...
The male Sambar deer with his beautiful horns...
A pair of juvenile Black Bucks...
A baby elephant walking alongside its mother...
The sloth bear looked relaxed and comfortable resting on the road...
The safari trail...
The lions were sleepy but it was nice getting close to them...
The White Tiger was in deep siesta...
Rohan also was in deep slumber all through the safari..
As we were entering the Tiger safari area, we saw a rogue tiger chasing a Jeep. He looked really agitated...
He gave me an angry stare before vanishing away...
There were other moderate ones lying peacefully on the track...
The confident walk of a tiger is so amazing to watch...
Very nice photos

Incredible. So many butterflies that I've never seen before, and I'm so glad you also gave us a glimpse of the caterpillars. They are just lovely. I think my favorite photo was the one of the lone tiger heading into the woods with his head turned back slightly. What a magical place!
ReplyDeleteEverything is beautiful about this park and exciting as well. What a wonderful selection of pictures. I am guessing that Rohan will not sleep through all of this excitement when he gets a little older :)

ReplyDeleteStunning photography! Those butterflies are beautiful and the tigers are my favorite animal!
ReplyDeleteThis was amazing, and I loved to see all of it [except the snaky bit... scares me since I was a young kid and even when I was in Uganda and the huge ones were there, it was a blessing that I survived!]. This just made me smile and filled with excitement. Thank you so much!!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos, especially the ones of the tigers! It looks like a great place to visit.
ReplyDeleteLove the butterfly shots particularly.
ReplyDeleteWow! Great photos of wild life!
ReplyDeletewonderful.
ReplyDeleteThose butterflies are wonderful. I love the deer. What a great shot of the angry tiger.
ReplyDeleteYour photos kept getting better and better - very professional. I must say that I have never heard of a sloth bear.
ReplyDeleteLoved the beautiful photos. Such a nice assortment of butterflies and it was nice to see the caterpillars as well. I thought the caterpillar of the striped tiger butterfly was even prettier than the butterfly itself.
ReplyDeleteAmazing pictures, too, of all the safari animals, from the gentler species to all the lions and tigers. Baby elephant with his mama was really sweet. You'll have to go back again since Rohan seemed to miss a lot during nap time!
These are some awesome animals and your photos are really great. I can't pick a favorite!
ReplyDeleteJust look at that mama elephant and her baby. So sweet. Your series today could easily be a Power Point presentation for a class on butterflies and their life cycles. Your close ups are phenomenal.
ReplyDeleteamazing photo's of the butterflies and I love all the other animals too....thank you for sharing this amazing place.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photographs! I appreciated the stages of caterpillar, pupa, and butterfly. Great closeups. When we got to the bigger animals, the tigers were my favorite. Your son looks so sweet. I saw your link at Becca's Friday's Five Features party. Ann Marie @ Iris Abbey www.irisabbey.com

ReplyDeleteAwesome photos Shiju !! Loved all of them
ReplyDeleteAwesome Click Shiju
ReplyDeleteBeautiful captures Shiju. As a wildlife enthusiast myself, I just wanted to bring one important aspect to light. For most people, Bannerghatta is all about the wildlife safari, zoo and the park. What visitors do not realize is that there is much more to this spot. People should try booking a resort and explore the area. These resorts even hire experts who guide you around. Spotting animals in the wild such as spotted deer, bonnet macaques, barking deer, wild boars and jackals is a really great experience. Plus the area is home to over 200 species of birds at different seasons.
ReplyDeleteHi Shiju.. Awesome photo blog. Your wildlife photography is really beautiful. I have also included you in our blog (http://www.36floors.com/blog/places-to-visit-near-bangalore) Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThanks.
DeleteSo beautiful pictures and great stuff thank you for sharing us.
