Morning walk at Kanakkary

I was in Kerala for a short trip. In one of my morning walks at Kanakkary village, I came across a road named after Victor George. Upon googling, I found that Victor George was an Indian photographer who died while photographing landslides in Kerala. He was born in Kanakkary, the very place I was standing. I decided to explore the area where Victor might have found his early photography inspirations. Here's a photo tour...

The area is mostly wooded with rubber tree plantations...

Beautiful plants on the weedy roadside...

The three ducks seemed to be following the chicken who crossed the road for some apparent reason...

Ferns grow in the crevices of rock...

Nutmeg fruit...

A juvenile chameleon curled its tail upon seeing me...

Australian bottle plant flowers...

Latex dripping from a rubber tree...

I couldn't identify this...

A millipede walking around with its many legs...

Fruits hanging from trees...

An abandoned quarry...

A pink flower...

A mushroom...

A spider web...

Lantana flowers...

The ducks were again spotted on my way back. This time they were quacking vociferously as if to convey their contempt for photography.

  1. What an adventure!!! Loved going through the area with you...the ducks area adorable, and I love your narration about following the chicken to cross the road.

All your images are superior!!! The flowers, the dripping rubber latex, the critters [that pose of the lizard is phenomenal]...everything in this post was great.

Thanks for sharing/adding the link to this for us birders at I'd Rather B Birdin' this week.

  6. Love the ducks, and your humor. What a lovely walk. Neat to see the latex being gathered much the same way we gather maple sap here in the US. Wonderful photo series!

  11. Wow, amazing photos. I especially love the little chameleon with his defensive stance and curly tail. Also the way they extract the rubber (is it latex) from the tree is really cool.

  15. Beautiful photos! Each one is a stunner! I have that orange flower in my garden, one plant that was here already when I bought my house, I have no idea of it's name, but I love the foliage as well. I wonder if you know the name? Your Pink Saturday offering is fabulous!

  39. An excellent variety of photos Shiju. I'm Australian & I've never heard of the Australian Bottle Plant before. They have beautiful flowers. I may have to investigate further & see if I can find one for our garden. The duck photos are lovely & the quarry looks like it would be a great place for a swim on a hot day..
