I could not go birding for close to a month due to unrelenting rain. Finally made a trip to Hoskote lake with my 7 year old, Rohan. Here are the pics...
...
As we walked near the lake, we saw a few Spot-billed Pelicans floating gently looking for breakfast...
...
A female Baya Weaver was seen next...
...
A Grey Heron...
...
A Little Grebe...
\
...
An Indian Pond-heron camouflaged in the dried up water hyacinth leaves...
...
Meanwhile, Rohan was exploring on his own with one of my old cameras...
...
...
There were plenty of things to observe and I was happy to see him exploring in detail...
...
A Little Cormorant was drying himself after a dip...
...
And an Indian Pond-heron was focused on procuring his next meal...
...
A Green Bee-eater sat on a wire...
...
Rohan continued to explore. It was amusing to see how he closed his one eye...
...
A Jerdon's Bushlark foraged in the grass...
...
And a Purple Heron skulked...
...
We reached the Baya Weaver colony. The male Baya Weaver is a fascinating tale of patience. One was wooing females hanging from his unfinished nest...
...
While one was building yet another storey to his rejected nest in the hope of getting accepted...
...
We watched them tirelessly building nest and trying to impress the passing females...
...
The sky was looking good...
...
A Jungle Myna hops on a cow to take insects disturbed by the grazing cattle...
...
I took a timelapse video of the moving clouds...
...
A juvenile Pied Bushchat...
...
Rohan was still clicking pictures. I was curious to know what he was finding interesting...
...
I introduced Rohan to the Shame plant (Mimosa pudica). He had fun making the leaves sleep. Here's a video...
...
White-browed Wagtail is an unmissable bird here. And by chance if you miss, it gives a loud 3–4 noted whistle to alert you...
...And another loudmouth is the Ashy Prinia...
...
We sat near the lake and watched the water birds and reviewed the photos...
...
...
A Painted stork...
...
A Eurasian Moorhen...
...
We browsed through Rohan's clicks. His subjects of interest were the cows, some pugmarks and the most interesting according to him was a sleeping dog...
...
We headed back home satisfied with what we saw and clicked...
...
When we reached home, Rohan showed me this snail shell he collected from the lake shore...
...

ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteIt is great your son is taking after his father, he may be a famous photographer one day. Rohan did great with photos of the cattle, birds and the dog. Your photos are awesome as always. I have so many favorites, I would love to see all these birds. Awesome post and photos. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a great weekend! PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.
It's always encouraging to see father and son exploring nature together. Perhaps Rohan will inherit your passion.
ReplyDeleteIt is if I look at a photobook with exotic birds made by an expert bird photographer for the curious bird lover and in passing teaches the new generation how to go about it. Wonderful.
ReplyDeleteFantastic photos. We loved "meeting" your son, who looks like a promising photographer.

Hello,:=) I enjoyed seeing all your photos, as usual they are "topnotch, and it is delightful that your son Rohan is following in your footsteps.

ReplyDeleteThese are amazing photos. All the better to have your son featured! Such a lovely adventure. You must have been happy to get out and about.
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are fabulous. The wagtail is so elegant looking perched and not bobbing around. The Grey Heron looks a lot like our Great Blue Heron. I so enjoy seeing the different birds of your area. You are a good father that takes your son out into nature. Nature is a great educator and it has many other benefits. His confidence will be ensured with your love and direction. His photo skills will also be spectacular.

I enjoyed all your photos.
ReplyDeleteGreat that you also involve Rohan in photography.
Greetings Irma
By the time your son is an adult you will have a rival in the family:) Did you ask why he closed his left eye? You were gone for a few weeks so I hoped you were okay! These hanging nests are so interesting! Love the long slender neck of the herons ... have a great weekend you all (the "you all" is an additive, like in California, they say,
ReplyDeleteyou guys)
Yes, I did ask him. He said he's more comfortable closing his eye with his hand, it puts less strain on his face. You too have a great weekend!
DeleteYour birds are so fascinating and exotic to see! The nest builders are so patient and do such wonderful work!
ReplyDeleteKids have amazing eyes for things to photograph, I know he had fun while you two were out!
Awesome capture of photos! I love the outdoors (and I miss them) and taking photos of nature. Thanks for allowing us a glimpse of your adventures!
ReplyDeleteHappy WW!
I loved that Rohan went too. I too close one eye using the Canon. Been ages though, the Iphone is what I use now. So good when you can get out like that together and the little vids were fun.Thank you for sharing your post as part of Monday's Life This Week. I do enjoy seeing my blogging friends pop in with a post to share and a comment too. Always appreciated. Next week, the optional prompt is View. I hope to see you there too. Take care, Denyse.
ReplyDeleteWonderful pictures once again. How nice to see a budding photographer too, hopefully he'll continue.

ReplyDeleteThat's wonderful to see your son picking up photography at an early age. Beautiful photos!
ReplyDeleteThe bird photos are incredible!!

ReplyDelete#mysundayphoto
WOWWWWW!Wonderful pics!Precious time with your son!
ReplyDeleteI thoroughly enjoyed all of your and Rohan's clicks. I am much like Rohan when I use the spotting scope. I look with one eye. I can alternate eyes but I always keep the opposite eye that I am sighting with closed. I can look through the scope with both eyes open but it wears me out doing so. With the camera I usually use the screen find my shot. I kept a mimosa for some time when I was young. I loved to tease it. It felt like a pet. I also like sleeping dogs. They look so peaceful.
ReplyDeleteThe Ashy Prinia photos are gorgeous, especially the one with it just standing there posing looking right at the camera. The Wagtail is an elegant bird. I could never consider a stork elegant but this Painted Stork sure lives up to its name. Cheers
