A refreshing birdwalk

Another visit to Hoskote lake. The weather was quite pleasant and I had a good refreshing birdwalk for 45 minutes. Here are the pictures...
...

I began by exploring the major part of the lake where the water birds are usually active.

...

phalanx of Eurasian Spoonbill were out fishing with their spoon shaped bills...
...

I picked one and watched its activity...
...

Soon it caught something...
...

A breeding adult Little grebe was seen diving in quest of a meal...
...

A nonbreeding adult Little grebe was also seen...
...

I continued my walk admiring the clouds in the freshly washed blue sky...
...

I saw some movement in a tree far away. A Green Bee-eater was well camouflaged in the foliage and on bee-hunting sorties. It caught a bee...
...

I was wishing it catches something bigger than a bee, so that I can get clearer pics. Wish was granted, another sailed in and sat on a wire. It had caught a dragonfly...
...

...

...

Then another flew in with a bee...
...

The puffy clouds were looking nice. I clicked a large hearted one...
...

I took a timelapse video to capture the alternating light and shadow caused by the moving clouds...

...

On my way back, I saw a Purple heron focused on fishing. Look at the change in posture in the next three pictures, when he sights a potential prey...
...

...

The fish gave a slip...
...

A Painted stork was lucky, though. He was struggling to swallow this big Tilapia fish he caught...
...

...

...

That's what I explored in 45 minutes. Hope you liked the post. Let me know your thoughts in the comments section below.

  5. Every birder that sees this post will have feelings of envy at not being there with you. Bee-eaters, for those of us who live in areas where they don't occur, impart a real sense of exoticism. They are great favourites of mine.

    1. No I've never seen ringed spoonbills. Actually, these have kind of settled here after liking the climes.

  7. Sadly we have a very slow WiFi so videos are impossible to watch. The other photos are magical though as always, a great 45 minutes. I have lots of bird photos that I have taken over the past few weeks, but I seem to be extra busy with a very demanding garden so I have had no time to do anything with them. It will happen eventually I hope! Have a great weekend, Diane

  8. Hi Shiju, Wonderful post! Your photography is excellent! Wondering if the Painted stork was able to swallow the fish? It seems like it would be several days of feeding with just one swallow! :-) John

    1. Yes, the stork struggled for a while, but was able to swallow.

  9. Superb shots of the bee eater Shiju. Like you say, the dragonfly came along at the right moment. I wish I could see more Spoonbills. Still quite rare here in the UK.

  23. If I had a place like that to visit I would have bought myself a better camera. From my travels I learned to love the Bee-eaters. Such beautiful and interesting birds. Too bad we don´t have them in Sweden. Spoonbills and grebes are also favorites. Spoonbilsl we don´t have, but we have three kinds of grebes. :)

  34. Love all the shots Shiju. Eurasian Spoonbill and Painted Storks are such a delight to behold.
We've seen most of these on our birding expeditions around Gurgaon.

Interesting is the deft camouflage of most wildlife species.

Would you like to hop in with me on #WW
