Bird watching at Valley School

I couldn't go on a Sunday bird watching trip in the past month due to travel and other pressing engagements. Last week, few birdwatchers of Bangalore were planning a Sunday birding trip to Valley School. I was included to the group of six by a friend on Saturday. Here's a photo essay of the early morning hike that gave us some fabulous sightings...


Overcast sunrise...


First sighting was of a White-rumped Munia...


A Jungle Babbler flew in and scared the munias away...

  1. The bright red seed pods are Indian Redwing, Pterolobium hexapetalum, and the white berries in the penultimate photo is Xanthium so. Lovely post,enjoyed it! - Deepa.

  10. So many wonderful photos, how can I choose? I love the Jerdon's Bushlark and the Paradise Flycatcher, and I have always wanted to try a custard apple.

  16. Your posts are always amazing. Nice to follow your nature-watching trips and see so different fruits and critters! The Crimson-Tip butterfly is similar to one we have in Finland, it is called Orange-Tip butterfly... maybe relatives?

    Amazing photo essay! There's some very interesting birds in your part of the world. The fantail in particularly really caught my eye! I also liked the mushroom that sorta made me think of a fan and the snowberry plant which made me think of yogurt covered raisins. :) Thanks for stopping by and linking up!

  21. Wow! Wonderful shots! That hornbill looks like it would be so front heavy in flight! I could have taken one hundred pictures of that caterpillar with the strand of silk and never have the silk show up! Amazing captures!!
