A trip to Kasavanahalli lake

Last Sunday, I reached Kasavanahalli lake around sunrise time in the hope of utilizing the golden hour. The morning, however, was cloudy and overcast. Here are some pics from the two hours of unhurried birding...

...
I saw a solitary Painted Stork and decided to hide behind bushes and watch it at leisure until the light improves...

...

...

...

...

...
I was delighted to see a team of Indian spot-billed ducks swimming in interesting formations...
...

...

...

...

...

...
As light improved, I started my walk. A Brahminy kite was seen next...
...

...

...
A movement on the ficus tree made me reach for my binocular. The resident Spotted owlet stared back at me...
...
...

...
A White-throated kingfisher was seen performing a
dazzling swoop targeting unwary fishes...
...
Here's the catch...

...
And again looking for more

...
A Green bee-eater was seen next...
...
Their mid air hunting sorties were quite interesting to watch...
...
Dragonflies are the prey for a change...

...
A bee-eater removes stings and breaks the exoskeleton of the prey by repeatedly thrashing it on the perch...

...

...

...
A squirrel...
...
View of the waterlily area of the lake...

  5. What beautiful pictures.
Many birds do not occur in the Netherlands, except for the owl, which we do see here.
The squirrel is cute, here in the Netherlands is the red squirrel, I once posted a blog about it.

  6. That stork is beginning to look like a kind of ibis. Totally different of the storks here in the Netherlands but as always beautiful bird pictures again.

  11. Every week you treat us to the most remarkable photo essay, with amazing birds. I love the little owlet, framed in the branches. It's always a good day birding when you see an owl. The dragonfly-eating photos are great too. I was surprised to see that the lake is close to high-rise buildings just across the lily pond.

  13. All stunning captures as usual. Sorry to see the dragonfly meet its end but it is the way of nature and how charmed by the round wide eyes of the curious little owl.

And it´s feathers really are. :) The Indian spot-billed ducks are beautiful too. I wish they could come to Sweden to visit :) The owl seem to keep watch of you. :) Take care.
