My birding trips continue to be short until my ankle injury heals completely. This week, I visited Kasavanahalli lake and just captured the bird activity at one end without much walking around. Here are the pics...
...
I reached the lake around sunrise time and the first sighting was this silhouette of a Little Egret...
...
An Asian Openbill looked great in the golden hour lighting...
...
It was constantly probing in the swamp and soon found what it was looking for...
...
The emerging sunlight brought a golden twinkle in a Little egret's eye...
We hope you feel wonderful soon. Thank you for these lovely shots
ReplyDeleteWhat great photos of the purple heron piercing a fish with its bill.
ReplyDeleteGreetings Irma
Great shots again.
ReplyDeleteImpressive wetland birds.
ReplyDeleteI would definitely go to a gallery to see your work. I love the header. Great fishing photos. Hope you're on the mend soon!
ReplyDeleteWow! That was a big meal for that Purple Heron. Do they swallow big fish like that whole? Very beautiful photos.
ReplyDeleteYes, it swallows the whole fish. But before that it ensures that the fish is dead because there's a risk of the fish slipping away during the swallowing attempt.
DeleteHello. Stunning photos. Wonderful birds!
ReplyDeleteHello,

These are incredbile!! And really fishing...
ReplyDeleteDear Shiju,
ReplyDeleteyour photos are great again - I am particularly impressed by your series of the patient fisherman, the purple heron, and his prey. Yes, patience is important, for photographers and for herons, too.
I hope you had a good start into May - have a nice Sunday! And I'll keep my fingers crossed for a good recovery of your ankle.

As always, breathtaking photos. I love photos of herons fishing but the size of this fish shocked me -- it was as big as the bird's chest! That's quite a meal and very impressive on both the part of the bird and you, the photographer!
ReplyDeleteIt is good that you can get out and about. Love the portrait of the openbill.it appears to be a large bird. I most enjoy seeing the action pictures. I like seeing what the birds eat. Unusual species of fish to me. Cheers...
ReplyDeleteGorgeous captures all!

ReplyDeleteYou have the talent of clicking the camera at the right moment with the birds catching the fish! These beaks look extremely sharp! Glad you could be at the water side!
ReplyDeleteOnce again a lovely set of pictures, the silhouette is beautiful..
ReplyDeletebeautiful shots of the heron :)
ReplyDeleteAmazing shots, especially the heron catching a big fish. I wish you quick recovery!
ReplyDeleteI got behind in blogging when my computer was down so I didn't know you'd hurt your ankle and am glad to see from your later post above that you are doing better. This short trip was very productive photographically -- beautiful pictures. I loved the series with the heron's breakfast. That purple heron is gorgeous -- I too have observed and commented on the patience of "our" large herons. They will stand perfectly still for hours waiting for that one perfect fish.
ReplyDeleteI hope your ankle is healed soon. These photos are amazing. As I watch herons I always think that the big fish will choke them, but it doesn't.....
