I visited Saul Kere Lake after a year and it didn't disappoint despite the overcast, low light conditions. Here are a few birds I found...
At 7 AM, it was still dark due to the overcast conditions. A shy White-breasted waterhen gave a brief sighting...
There were no birds in sight. Probably they were waiting for the sun to show up. I concentrated on the Hibiscus bloom...
A cattle egret was restlessly hopping and flying around in the dark...
An Indian Spot-billed duck was moving with practiced elegance...
I walked along the lake bank as the sun reluctantly broke through the misty morning...
A pair of Spotted doves were behaving like a lovey-dovey couple...
As the sun broke out, sunbirds and sundry other small birds came out chirping. A Cinereous tit caught my attention...
An Indian Silverbill couple found the early morning time fit for intimacy...
I guess, the Purple-rumped sunbird was waiting for the sun to show up. It was so animated seeing the slight glimpse of sun rays through the clouds...
It is so fond of sunlight, just goes head over heels basking in whatever little is available...
Spotted dove...
A juvenile Eurasian coot learning life with his mother. Coots can be very brutal to their own young under pressure such as the lack of food. They will bite young that are begging for food and repeatedly do this until it stops begging and starves to death. If the begging continues, they may bite so hard that the chick is killed.
But this mother looked considerate. It was aggressively trying to find food. Eurasian coot is omnivore. Here it was seen biting some seeds from water vegetation...
It was funny to watch this squirrel, nibbling his breakfast like a baby spilling more than eating...
A Greater coucal showed up for a few seconds...
A Red-whiskered bulbul came out biting a black berry. The plant had some red berries too. I decided to wait for it to bite a red berry...
It did bite a red berry after a bit of frustrating wait...
The next bite just made my day. The red berry was matching the red whiskers...
That ends the short birding trip to Saul Kere lake. It was a bit frustrating to begin with but ended well. Hope you liked the post. Do let me know your thoughts in the comments section below...

So much to see here. The colors are so bright. Several birds I have never seen like the spotted dove - beautiful.Love all these details of pairs, and your capture of the duck with all of the water reflections is phenomenal. Wishing you peace, love, and joy this week - that it may be enduring state of mind! So much appreciate you becoming a part of All Seasons this year! Also many thanks for your kind comments.
ReplyDeleteAmazing photography! It is always an adventure not knowing what you may find but this morning was very special.
ReplyDeleteAn absolute stunning selection of photos. I have to say though I fell in love with the Purple-rumped sunbird. The the slightly cross looking red eyed coucal is quite different to the coucals I know, it is beautiful. Having said that your closeups of the Red-whiskered bulbul are superb as well. All the best for 2020, Diane
