I had an enjoyable morning at Kaikondrahalli lake. This was the first birding trip there since October, 2019. Here are some pics from the brief visit...
...
The dry trees in the water...
...
I saw a couple of Indian Spot-billed Ducks sitting on a dry tree...
...
Another one was busy preening...
...
It is the breeding time for Great Cormorants. Incubation is done by both sexes. I saw several nests...
...
One partner fetches food while the other incubates...
...
One advantage of nesting in a colony, you can chat with your neighbor when you feel lonely...
...
Partners are very caring and supportive...
...
I saw a juvenile Black Kite perched on a dry tree...
...
A White-throated Kingfisher was seen next...
...
An Indian Spot-billed duck was roosting in peg-legged stance while keeping the other leg tucked up into its body feathers for warmth...
...
I got a closer look at one more Great Cormorant nest...
...
And the non-incubating partner is always around...

What a great series of photos this is.
ReplyDeleteReally nice to see, this species of kingfisher is a species that we don't see here
I wish you a good weekend.
Greetings Irma
A great series, as usual. Love the Indian spotbilled ducks. How is it possible for these rather chubby birds to balance on one leg?
ReplyDeleteAnother chapter to your great animal encyclopedia. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteAnother great outing with beautiful sightings of birds and butterflies. Awesome photos of both the Kingfishers, the Egret, the Great Cormorants and the Spot-billed Ducks. The Brahminy Kites are one of my favorites. Pretty flowers. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, enjoy your weekend. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.
As always, your images are remarkable but the young boy in the previous post learning to love nature and exploring with his camera was the best sight of all. :)
ReplyDeleteFabulous Kingfisher pictures.
ReplyDelete...your brief visit produced so many wonderful sighting.
ReplyDeleteHello,:=) I enjoyed all your photos, and was so interested in your narrative and captures of the Great Cormorant. Well done for showing such a great variety of creatures, and sharing your knowledge about them.
ReplyDeleteLove all of your photos, very nice indeed! The Kingfisher photos are fantastic.
ReplyDeleteIt's such a joy to look at your photos and see familiar things...but different too! Like the Kingfisher that's very different from ours here in FL and the butterflies. I love the Kites too! You really get to see a lot when you go there. I hope you get to go sometime soon. Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteI mean go again soon! Enjoy!
DeleteJust loved the series, Amazing pics.
ReplyDeleteAwesome outing! Such incredible sights. And oerct photos of the bird life (love the kingfisher's catch of the day!)
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking in this week!
Perfect...instead of 'orect'
DeleteCan't imagine the Great Cormorants nesting high in a tree. They must be strong trees. Beautiful butterfly. I love the way most butterflies are two-sided pattern-wise. I am happy to see you got to expand your travels. I bet it felt liberating. Oh...pretty flower too.
ReplyDeleteI love the preening duck and it's fascinating to see the nested birds.
ReplyDeleteYour nature shots are sooo professionsal ~ Love the Brahminy Kite photos ~ Xo

ReplyDeleteBeautiful Indian Spot-billed Ducks images, we can see how the Cormorant have there in there in nest.
ReplyDeleteI recognize the beautiful birds, but I have never seen the butterflies before. They too are beautiful :)
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely photos! The spot billed ducks are beautiful and it's great to see the cormorants at their nests
ReplyDeleteGreat photos of beautiful critters. You take very nice close ups of the critters. Have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeletethe Red Pierrot is beautiful
ReplyDeleteAmazing photos...crisp, clear...just perfect!! You are an outstanding photographer!!!...jp
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos! The photo of the duck scratching its head made me laugh! That was a fun shot!
ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous photos it's always nice seeing them in their own envirement

Gorgeous photos as always!
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining us this week at https://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/2021/09/a-prickly-situation-from-archives.html
Another impressive collection. The duck was my favourite as I could see so much detail from your wonderful photos.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant photographs!
ReplyDeleteThe kite looks so regal! :)
And the lake with its naked trees is quite a sight by itself. Very nice pictures!
That butterfly! Magnificent!
ReplyDeleteAwesome , such beautiful captures
ReplyDeleteI love how you give us the names of everything. So many beautiful things to see - birds, butterflies, and flowers. Thanks for linking on Amanda's Books and More!
ReplyDeleteA feast for the eyes...and I so wish I had more chances to capture pics of butterflies... Thank you for sharing your post for this week’s link up in Life This Week on Denyse Whelan Blogs. It’s a lovely sharing place you’ve visited and added your post. I wish you well and next Monday, the link up is Share Your Snaps…but of course, any post, old or new, on/off prompts is most welcome. Denyse.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful captures.
ReplyDeleteYour photo's never fail to delight. Another stunning collection.
ReplyDeleteLove that butterfly, so pretty! And so are the pink flowers:) Wow, that duck preening would be a great subject to paint (if I didn't have a plethora of other things to do, lol, I might ask you for your permission later)
ReplyDeleteAm surprised the cormorants have a nest in the trees, I thought they would have it more closely to the water. Your captures have more shadow in them - a day without sun? Thank you for leaving me the link, Shiju:)
You can use my pictures anytime, I'll be happy to see my photos as part of your fascinating paintings. This season we had a lot of rain, making most mornings overcast.
DeleteYou are an incredible bird photographer!!
ReplyDeleteGreat bird shots.
ReplyDeleteReally fabulous shots! #FridayBliss
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy your photographs, Shiju and this week is no exception! The dry trees are so striking, and the birda are so beautiful. I particularly enjoyed the Kingfishers and the Brahminy Kites. We have Kites that fly over our house - they live in the fields and trees nearby - but they are nowhere near as beautiful as the ones you photographed. They must be 'ordinary Kites'! Thank you for sharing and for being a part of the Hearth and Soul Link Party community.
ReplyDeleteGreat nature photos! Have a good weekend.
ReplyDeleteYou always find such a variety of birds. I enjoyed and admired <3
ReplyDeleteA very productive trip...I have a soft spot for ducks and those have such pretty markings but are similar to our mallards except only wood ducks here perch in trees...Michelle
ReplyDeleteAll excellent photos and I like the juvenile kite. Thank you for linking up.
ReplyDeleteWonderful!!!
ReplyDeleteWonderful! I have seen this Lake... You have captured it so beautifully
ReplyDeletegreat photos, I really like these shots. Niszczarki profesjonalne greets.
