More winter visitors arrive

Birding at Hoskote lake these days is rewarding me with special sightings of new winter visitors each time. Here are some native and foreign birds I saw in my Sunday visit...

I was happy to see a White-throated Kingfisher adding a burst of blue in the gray overcast morning...

A male Asian Koel was also spotted on the same tree...

A Wood Sandpiper was looking around for food along the edge of the lake. Seeing this winter migrant for the first time this season was a welcome sight...

A Clamorous Reed Warbler, another winter visitor was flitting around in the bush clutter...

The Eurasian Marsh-Harrier flew in with its typical "gliding over water and frightening off other birds" behavior...

I watched its antics in awe...

Eurasian Marsh-Harrier is a bird of prey from temperate and subtropical western Eurasia and adjacent Africa...

I liked the attitude of this bird...

Even its droppings look pretty 😝😃

Cattle egret accompanying cattle to catch insect and small vertebrate prey disturbed by the animal...

Screeching noise diverted me towards this Rose-ringed Parakeet...

Due to the very mild sunshine and misty, wintry weather,  very few butterflies were seen. Here's a Plain tiger butterfly...

A Black Drongo was guarding its territory as usual...

I watched Indian Silverbills hopping on and off the wire...

Then saw a Brahminy Kite and a Gray heron perched close together...

One more sighting of  Eurasian Marsh-Harrier...

I hope you liked the post. Do let me know your feedback in the comments section below...

  5. The beautiful blue feathered king fisher looks pretty feisty (maybe to make up for it's tiny size?)! What I love about your captures, besides the lovely and attractive sharpness, if that you show the attitude and personality of these birds! Some are so war-like and aggressive, I am not near them, like the black Drongo and the Marsh Harrier. Many thanks Shiju for showing these to All Seasons. Have a marvelous December week, Jesh

  12. Just tremendous photos, Shiju. The Marsh-Harrier certainly looks like a bird of prey and I would have guessed hawk or falcon because I know nothing about birds but certainly love you incredible photos.

  16. These are so beautiful ...breathtaking bird photos! The series with the harrier was great..I could almost hear it scream! I loved the name of the clamorous reed warbler ...I’m sure based on the name that it is also a noisy bird. Loved the heron and kite sitting together ... and am envious of all your beautiful birds. Even the only one that is familiar to me, the cattle egret. Because you got a picture of it actually sitting on the cows head! I have wanted to get that picture for years, but never succeeded (we see that when were driving, but never when stopped wit a camera! Thanks fir all!

  19. Shiju,

You always do a bang up good job capturing some beautiful feathered friends in flight or perched. The white-throat Kingfisher looks so vivid against the gray sky backdrop and the Black Drongo looks like more midnight blue than black in my opinion. But wait, did you not see a partridge in a pear tree to photograph? Maybe next time, huh? lol Merry Christmas and happy New Year, my friend!
