Winged wonders of Hoskote

Yet another Sunday morning trip to Hoskote lake in Bangalore to meet the winged wonders. Here's a photo tour...

We reached the lake around 8 am, later than usual. By now the sun was much above the horizon and warming things around me...

A Painted Stork was seen standing in the shallow water near the bank of the lake...

It was clumsily dipping its bill in the water, and didn't look smart enough to catch a fish...

Suddenly, it sprang up with a huge catch, proving my thoughts wrong...

Like me, the bird too seemed to be in awe of the catch...

The fish was swallowed in whole...

Here's the last I saw of the two together...

We moved to the marsh area with reeds where munia birds thrive...

Soon, a couple of female Black-breasted weaver also known as Bengal weaver flew in...

A Ground Skimmer dragonfly in flight...

While we were waiting for munias near the reed area, a Grey-headed Swamphen made an appearance...

Then came a flock of Indian Silverbills....

A glimpse of the male Red Avadavat also known as Strawberry  Finch or Red Munia...
