Battle of Music Bands

Last friday, wife and I attended the South Zone Finale of Sennheiser Top 50, held at The Humming Tree, a popular bar and music venue in Bangalore. The Sennheiser Top 50 is a search for promising young music bands from India to compete and make their way into the Top 50 bands of India.
Here's a photo tour of an evening filled with great music, talents, food and cocktails...

The top 3 bands from South Zone were to compete. Big Deal was the first band to perform. A Hip-Hop and Rap specialist with Samir Rishu Mohanty doing the vocal and Dj Panic taking care of the beats...

The lyrics were aggressive and funny. His numbers were the perfect warm-up to an exciting night...

The audience seemed to love his humour...

Next performance was by a band called All The Fat Children. The vocalist Eben Johnson was really funny. One of his songs, according to him was anti-feminist and he sang it wearing a maxi and ample amount of lipstick...

They play Fat Rock, a genre they coined to term their "fat" sound...

The humour made my wife chuckle...

Vickram Kiran on Bass...

Here's a medley...

Next was a band called When Chai Met Toast, with vocalist Ashwin Gopakumar and guitarist Achyuth Jaigopal...

They sang some happy songs with soulful music...

Here's a video of one of their songs called firefly...

The jury...

While the jury was deciding the winner, we had a performance by Vasu Dixit Collective. Vasu is quite a scintillating personality...

Here's a video...

And finally at around 12:30 AM the jury announced the winner. When Chai Met Toast is the winner! They have made it to the Sennheiser Top 50 grand finale at Hard Rock Cafe, Worli, Mumbai on 21st September, 2017...

Leaving you with music videos of the runner-up and the winner...

  11. Some great photos here. Shooting indoors, particularly in club lighting, can be a challenge. You've done a great job of capturing the lighting and the energy of the audience.

  12. A super medley that really captures the excitement of a live performance. The banjo in the winning band was a surprise to hear in an Indian musical group. Very talented musicians.
